Saddleback Gets 11.5 Years

Gun Wielding Drug Dealer Sentenced

Thirty-four-year-old Jirard Stacey Saddleback of Calgary recieved his sentencing this morning (September 25, 2024) at the Court of King’s Bench in Moose Jaw in relation to an incident that occurred on October 21, 2022.

Saddleback was sentenced to 11 and a half years in a federal penitentiary for his actions against the Moose Jaw Police Service and other drug-related offences. He was accredited 1004 days of time served on remand.

In a joint submission with the defence and Crown prosecutor, Saddleback pleaded guilty to the following offences:

  • Discharging a firearm with the intent to resist arrest

  • Assaulting a Police Officer by threatening with a firearm

  • Possession of a restricted firearm without a license

  • Breach of a firearms prohibition order

Saddleback also pleaded guilty to the following drug-related offences:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking (CDSA) (848 grams)

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 ($6620 Canadian Currency)

The Honourable Madam Justice C.L. Dawson imposed a mandatory DNA order and also a lifetime firearm ban on Saddleback.

While conducting a search of Saddleback’s residence, Police heard multiple gunshots within a block of their location. Officers immediately surrounded the area and then heard another gunshot on the 300 block of Ross Street West.

Following negotiations with Saddleback, he finally surrendered and was arrested without incident and taken into Police custody.

After being arrested, Police discovered and seized 848 grams of Methamphetamine and $6620 of Canadian Currency that Saddleback had in his possession.

Editor’s Note: Initially the MJPS reported Saddleback had not gotten past the police perimeter when in fact he did and ran past MJ Independent’s reporter before firing a shot and the negotiations got underway.
