Plans Change For Detours Around Thatcher And Main Repairs - Drivers And Transit Impacted

Changes in the scope of the work has led to changes in how the intersection of Main Street North and Thatcher Drive will be closed and the duration.

Initially the plan called for the work to be done over two weeks with each week having a different road closure and detour routing.

Now the intersection work will see the intersection close completely but the work to be done in five days and not two weeks - weather permitting.

The original two week plan has been scrapped and replaced with a new much shorter plan.

Work is scheduled to commence on August 20.

The work will be completed in one phase with extensive traffic accommodation and detouring.

Traffic will be re-routed along the west service road and around Diefenbaker Drive.

Traffic will continue to have access to the Northeast Service Road and businesses on the south side of Thatcher Drive, but barricades will be in place blocking the entrances to the Thatcher Drive and Main Street intersection.

“The entire project will take approximately five days to complete, weather permitting. All businesses in the area will remain open while the project is being completed,” the news release stated.

This project is the continuation and completion of the Ministry of Highways work on Main Street that occurred in 2022. The repaving of the intersection is funded by the Ministry of Highways.

Transit Impact

The project will also affect Moose Jaw Transit as routes and bus stops will be temporarily rerouted.

Alternate transit routes will be in place, and three locations will be impacted for the duration of this project:

- Stop ID 1049 East Service Road/ Thatcher Drive – will be closed

- Stop ID 1047 will remain open, but Transit will travel down Highland Road first

- Stop ID 2019 West Service Road/Thatcher Drive will temporarily be moved 40 metres west from the construction.
