Motorcycle Repair Shop Celebrates Two Years Of Operation
By Robert Thomas
Hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts, neighbourhood residents as well as music lovers descended on DNA Cycle and Service - 1135 9th Avenue SW - on Saturday afternoon as the motorcycle repair shop held a block party.
Billed as a block party the event was designed not only to celebrate DNA Cycle’s two year anniversary but also to bring more life and people out to South Hill says owner/tech Laine Denoncourt.
“It’s all about bringing a little bit of life into the streets,” Denoncourt said.

He said he decided to open his shop due to a gaping hole in the local motorcycle repair business. The lack of available motorcycle repair services in Moose Jaw presented an opportunity.
“We were missing out on a demographic in town that needed service in town without having to drive long distances to get their bikes fixed.”
With the past couple of years of COVID - 19 restrictions Denoncourt describe the event as “one of those things to bring people out again.”
“It was an opportunity to get outside with their local community and for people of similar interest to meet.”
The idea of the event was to bring people out on South Hill to enjoy the day.
“We wanted to re-create the SOB days atmosphere and give people something to look forward to.”
SOB Days or South Of the Bridge Days was a highly popular street festival started by the Moose Jaw Eagles Club to bring people to South Hill when the Fourth Avenue Bridge was closed for major repairs in the early 1990s.
Music for the event was provided by the local musical group “Lights Out.”

Denoncourt said he was personally overwhelmed by the 300 - 350 people who showed up.
“We had expected just over 100… this is overwhelming.”
The event featured two local food trucks - Kona Ice and the “best wieners in town” Top Dogs.
He said one of the things he was proud about were people from the neighbourhood walking down the street to listen to the band and have a Kona Ice.
Asked about what kind of services the shop offers Denoncourt said DNA Cycle was set up to repair and fix motorcycles.
“It’s all about keeping people mobile.”
The shop doesn’t specialize in repairing and servicing one particular brand of motorcycle but all brands of motorcycles are welcome to repair.
“We fix everything from Metric to Harley Davidsons and anything in between.”
The shop also stocks oils and lubricants for all motorcycles as well specialty products.
