Rhinos De-Horned In Regina - Qu'Appelle
Winnipeg, Manitoba - It was an attempt to set a Guiness Book of World Records record for the longest election ballot in history but in the ended in extinction but not without setting a self described Canadian election record – for the most refused candidates in a federal riding.
Calling themselves the Qu'Appelle 10, a herd affiliated with the Rhinoceros Party of Canada, attempted to get on the ballot as Independent candidates by using one set of signatures in the Regina - Qu'Appelle riding.
The Rhinos managed to collect 110 signatures on a nomination form for “ALL CANDIDATES” in the Regina - Qu'Appelle riding and managed to get two candidates on the ballot before what the Rhinos term the Returning Officer “got cold feet “ and refused the next 10 members of the herd from running.
The Rhinos attempted to use the Charter of Rights and Freedoms where it states all citizens have the right to seek political office to use just one set of signatures to allow all candidates to run.
In Federal Court in Winnipeg on Friday the presiding justice made short work in cutting the horn off of the Rhino herd's aspirations of roaming freely in Regina - Qu'Appelle in the 2019 election.
NOTE - MJ Independent acting co-editor Robert Thomas ran a “successful” losing campaign in the 2015 federal election in the Moose Jaw - Lake Centre - Lanigan riding as a member of the Rhinoceros Party of Canada. He is no longer active in the Party.
