Labour Act Sick Leave Provisions Amended Due To Covid - 19
With the eighth presumptive case of COVID – 19 announced the Saskatchewan Legislature has unanimously passed a bill extending unpaid sick leave to all workers during a public health emergency.
The amendments to the Employment Act protects workers from losing their jobs for being absent when there is a publicly declared health emergency. The changes are retroactive to March 6th.
The changes remove the following:
a requirement that someone must work at least 13 consecutive weeks at a job in order to qualify for sick leave
remove the provision to require a doctor’s note to qualify for sick leave
The provisions took minutes to pass in the Legislature and passed unanimously.
