City Announces More Measures Due To Covid - 19
The City of Moose Jaw has announced more measures being undertaken due to Covid - 19.
Measures which will include barring the public from Council meetings, cancelling an open house, cancelling committee meetings as well as a move to keep transit running by having riders enter and exit out the back door.
The list of provisions are as follows:
• Moose Jaw City Council will continue with their meeting schedule, though Council meetings will be closed to the public. Shaw Cable has indicated that due to staffing issues they will not be able to broadcast regular meetings of City Council at this time. Therefore, City of Moose Jaw will live stream Council meetings on the City of Moose Jaw YouTube channel, and will add the meeting videos to the City website by 5:00 p.m. the following day.
• City Council has cancelled all Committee meetings until further notice.
• The Sanitary Landfill will remain open on its regular schedule.
• Water Main Open House Information Sessions, scheduled for March 18 and 26, have been cancelled. The City is preparing other means of delivering information on the water main replacement program to affected property/business owners and will make it available on the City website Friday, March 20. In the meantime, if you are a property or business owner affected by water main replacement this summer, and you have questions about the project, you can email: contactengineering@moosejaw.ca.
• City of Moose Jaw Transit is implementing additional safety precautions for both passenger and driver safety, including passenger boarding and disembarking at the rear door. Alternate Fare boxes will be placed near the front of the buses, over the passenger side wheel wells, and will be monitored by the drivers. Additionally, individuals with walkers or other mobility aids will still be accommodated via the ramp at the front bus entrances. Buses will be fully sanitized daily, with regular “spot” sanitizing of high-touch surfaces every day.
• The Emergency Operations Centre Staff continues to meet everyday.
Editor’s Note - MJ Independent has joined the Moose Jaw Express in voicing our concerns about the City closing Council meetings as it may in fact break the act and with no state of emergency declared having media present at long distances is a very low risk for the spread of Covid - 19.
