Solution Proposed For Hitting Sprinkler Problem To Potentially Cost $50,000

This past Saturday’s hit by a lacrosse ball on a fire sprinkler head at the Kinsmen Sportsplex has the City thinking about a costly repair.

Within a month two sprinklers on two diffeny occasions have been hit by lacrosse ball causing a flood costing between $3,000 - $5,000 to clean up.

“It’s basically replacing the sprinkler head that is damaged” and cleaning up the water, parks and recreation Derek Blais said.

Despite there being two incidents within a short time span, there has been nothing happen for 15 years until recently.

There is a number of solutions for the problem, but only one will work effectively in Moose Jaw.

New sprinkler heads with better protective heads is the best solution for the problem.

While things like netting will not work.

The cost of using better resistant sprinkler heads is between $30,000 and $50,000.

Additionally the City will meet with Moose Jaw Lacrosse and other user groups to see if there’s anyway the risks can be reduced, Blais said.

“I can assure you that changes will be made,” he said.
