Local Track Club Holds Its Own In Saskatoon

Last weekend - January 26th and January 27th - 15 members of the Moose Jaw Rotary Track Club (MJRTC) headed to the Knights of Columbus indoor games in Saskatoon.

Five members managed to make it to the medal podium.

“Indoors they have a lot of provincial champions. For us to be competitive at that level we are doing pretty good,” Scott Mitchell head coach said about the team’s performance.

Mitchell said for a mid-sized track and field club with 38 participants sending 15 members to compete is a big accomplishment for the club.

“We are very competitive” he said making mention of two other coaches - Erin Kell and Kylie Howe - in the team’s success.

MJRTC Medal Winners were:

Zayden Anderson - Gold U18 Boys Hurdles

Ademide Adewumi - Gold U18 Girls Shot Put

Alyssa Roney - Gold Open Women’s 800 meters (running out of the University of Saskatchewan)

Ella Mack - Bronze U16 Girls 1200 meters

Chris Gagne - Bronze U16 Boys 60m Hurdles

The MJRTC’s next big meet is an indoor meet February 9th and 10th in Regina.

The Knights of Columbus indoor track and field meet is the top meet in the province where premier athletes compete from across North America as well as track and school clubs.
