“It was a good showing. There was a lot of effort tonight. It was a good effort on the girls part. I think they had a few turnovers they could have prevented but that’s basketball,” Chris Temple head coach of the Cyclones said after the game.
Asked if he thought the Cyclones were to aggressive in their play Temple disagreed.
The Cyclones fought hard physically for rebounds and there were almost countless jump balls called as the team reached in attempting to strip the Saints of the ball.
“I wouldn’t say it was too aggressive. The only time that happens if you are taking untimely fouls and unnecessary fouls,” he said.
In one quarter the Cyclones came close to team foul troubles just managing to avoid it.
“You can always look back and there is a couple you wish that they hadn’t taken but that can be any game.”
Aggressive defence is key to scoring points, he said.
“That’s the way the girls play. They play aggressive on defence and have a lot of energy. You create turnovers and hopefully you get layoffs off of those turnovers.”
There was also changes in the game as the Spirits adapted.
“Vanier in the second half starting doing a better job against our press and they got a few buckets off of the press. So hats off to them for figuring that out,” he said.
The crowd watching the game was larger than normal something appreciated by Temple and the team.
Despite the final score it was an entertaining game of basketball.
“It’s always good to see people come out and support the girls and cheer them on and stuff.”
Asked about the team’s progress over the season he said “they have progressed fairly well. We have been playing solid all year. We’ve had a lot of good games.”
Central now sits on top of the city league’s junior girls division with a 5 wins and 1 loss record.
