The Moose Jaw Warriors were in Lethbridge on Tuesday night with a grand opportunity to put a 3-0 stranglehold on the Hurricanes.

Undoubtedly, in front of a home crowd, the Hurricanes would be playing with a bit more urgency.

For as much as the Warriors relished the thought of putting the Canes’ backs against the wall, the Canes also did not want to be forced into that situation.

This game started off a little different though. At just nine seconds into the first period Max Wanner dropped the gloves with Hurricanes defenceman Joe Arntsen. After a decent bout of fisticuffs the action returned.

The team’s were hitting hard and playing aggressive 4-on-4 hockey when Atley Calvert scored in the fifth minute, on only the Warriors’ second shot of the game, giving the good guys an early lead.

The goal came off a zipper of a wrist shot, Calvert beat Bryan Thomson by picking the corner, blocker-side.

I don’t call him the Action Man for nothing. Calvert has scored the opening goal in both games two and three.

A Cosmo Wilson hooking penalty led to Hurricanes captain Jett Jones evening the score just after the halfway point of Period 1.

He was the recipient of a quick pass from Cole Shepard. Jones was able to turn rabbit-quick reflexes into a pretty goal.

That was as good as it got for the Hurricanes though.

The Warriors were able to easily overcome the storm then got to work putting pucks in the net.

Before the first period ended Jagger Firkus backhanded his first of three straight goals past the Canes’ keeper.

A little Moose Jaw hospitality for Thomson, a Moose Javian himself.

Firkus’s second goal came at the start of Period 2, on a stolen puck. He got behind the defence and forced the puck into the net.

Firkus completed the natural hat-trick just a few minutes later banking in a pinpoint pass from Brayden Yager.

The Warriors were officially in flight when Martin Rysavy scored shortly after, increasing the lead to four goals.

Rydsvy’s goal came when he re-directed a Jagger Firkus shot into the net.

The Firkus Circus was in full effect. Make that a four point night for the kid from Irma.

The beating was sound enough that Bryan Thomson was pulled and Harrison Meneghin was in net for the third period.

Brayden Edwards got on back for Lethbridge in the third period, marking the first time in the series his team had scored more than one goal in a game.

Lethbridge, in one last attempt to salvage the game, pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker.

It was all for nothing though, as they remained unable to score.

Then with exactly one second left on the clock, Atley Calvert scored into the empty net.

Final score: Moose Jaw 6, Lethbridge 2

So far the Warriors have been extremely effective, both offensively and defensively.

After three games they have out-scored the Hurricanes 13-4.

Game 4 is tomorrow night, again, in Lethbridge, at the Enmax Centre.

With a victory the Moose Jaw Warriors will have completed a four game sweep and will have advanced to the second round of the WHL Playoffs.
