Jackson Hole - Bucking Bronco
Your Moose Jaw Warriors are doing whatever they can to finish this season strong. Home ice advantage in the first round is at stake.
They beat the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night, then, after delaying Saturday night’s game thanks to the Great Blizzard making travel unsafe, they resumed Sunday afternoon, at the Hangar, for a chance to beat them again.
Jackson Unger was sharp in the first period, turning away 13 of 14 shots, only allowing a late one to Matthew Ward.
But before that the Warriors pelted the Broncos for three unanswered goals.
The first one came from a Logan Dowhaniuk shot from deep.
The second one came courtesy of Jagger Firkus tapping in a pretty Martin Rysavy pass.
That goal was Firkus’ 33rd of the season.
On the third one it was Denton Mateychuk firing home a rebound off a Jagger Firkus shot, for his 7th.

After one period of play the Warriors held on to a comfortable 3-1 lead.
Tate Schofer added another one, early on in the Second Period, then treated the spectators to a cute celly where he pretended to fire off a crossbow. The Warriors were in flight.
But almost immediately after that the Broncos fired back, scoring two goals in quick succession and making it a one goal game. The goals were scored by Sam McGinley and Brady Birnie.
Halfway through the period Ryder Korczak netted an insurance marker. That was enough for the Broncos coach, Deven Praught, he had seen all he need and subsequently pulled his goalie, Reid Dyck.

But the flogging continued. Something about kicking a dead horse…er Bronco.
Brayden Yager welcomed the new goalie to the game by scoring on him, short-handed, nonetheless.
The Warriors had afforded themselves the ability to play it easy in Period 3 and that’s exactly what they did.
They hunkered down and forced Swift Current to chase them. And that’s exactly what they did. And it worked.
Swift Current was unable to mount any sort of worthwhile comeback.
…and just to add one last wallop, Mateychuk scored again with just a couple minutes left to seal the deal on the win and a 4 point evening.
Also, for the record, the Warriors Penalty Kill unit was flawless, shutting down five Power Plays
That’s 3 in a row for the Warriors. They won 7-3.
Eric Alarie, Logan Dowhaniuk, Firkus and Korczak all had multi-point nights.
Mateychuk, Korczak and Dowhaniuk were the 3 Stars.
The Warriors are free until next weekend when they play Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats in a home-and-away series.
