Mavericks Take Game One In Playoff Series
Add another W in the win column as the Moose Jaw Midget A Mavericks defeated the Southeast Goldwings 4 - 1 in first round Saskatchewan Female Hockey League playoff action on Friday evening.
The Mavericks, who have not played since late January, managed to come from behind and defeat the Midale based team on the strength of three goals in the third period.
After a scoreless first period which saw the Mavericks successfully kill two penalties versus three penalties assessed to the Goldwings the visiting team managed to score first at the 11:20 mark of the second period when Baley Farr beat Mavericks goaltender Schay Campaugh. The assist went to Caydence Chapman.
Late in the period the Mavericks managed to get on the board when Eowyn Stokes scored assisted by Jadyn Palaschuk at the 1:04 mark.
The third period scoring wise was all Mavericks as they finished off the Goldwings in three unanswered goals.
At 10:53 Brooklyn Nimegeers scored assisted by Kaelyn Logan.
The third Mavericks goal was scored by Taylor Luciak assisted by Ember DuSomme at the 6:25 mark.
The final goal was the Maverick’s Lindsay Daniel scoring unassisted with 1:32 left in the game.
The win puts the Mavericks up 1 - 0 in the best of three games series.
Game two in the best of three is today in Midale at 2 pm.
If Game Three is necessary it is to be played Monday at 7:30 pmm at the Red Knight Arena.
