Miller Express Earn Spot in Postseason
Your Moose Jaw Miller Express wrapped up a rocky regular season with a berth in a tough playoff series against the dominant, league leading Weyburn Beavers.
The season started out fantastic for the Millers as an offensive onslaught and some solid pitching led them to a 6-0 start to the season and a lot of WMBL followers thinking they could be a real championship contender.
Things slowed down considerably thereafter and those free-swinging bats cooled off, as the Millers struggled the rest of the season, finishing with a record of 23-25.
Blake Gallager, from Fredericton, NB was named the team MVP. He batted .296 in 34 games, adding 14 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.
Scott Platt was the team's Silver Slugger award winner and the speedy fielder Eric Marriott won the Gold Glove.
Catcher Ty Barclay was awarded the Coaches Award.
A few sluggers worth mentioning here are Ty Roseberry, who led the squad with 7 Home Runs and 33 RBIs. Roseberry batted a very solid .277. Alex Hendra Brown and Brooks Benson both slugged 5 Homers each. 23 and 18 RBIs, respectively. Although they both have a lot of pop in their bats they failed to hit consistently. Hendra-Brown batted .233 and Benson a lowly .203
A group of pitchers showed a lot of promise. Mason Garispe and Mitchell Robinson were the club's co-Pitchers of the Year. Garispe led the league with 67 strikeouts and Robinson, who was the opening weeks Most Valuable Pitcher finished the season with an impressive 2.62 ERA in 7 starts.
Ryder Yakel pitched 54.1 innings and recorded 4 wins while Logan Hoffman had 4 wins with a sharp 1.95 ERA.
