No Extra City Cash To Match Provincial Airport Grant
The Moose Jaw Municipal Airport Authority is the recipient of a $120,000 grant from the provincial government.
Under the terms of the grant the Airport Authority - working under the auspices of the City of Moose Jaw - will receive a 50/50 cost shared grant under the Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program under the Highways Ministry.
The CAP program helps funds eligible projects such as runways, taxiways, lighting, security fencing and navigational systems on a 50/50 cost sharing basis up to $275,000.
In the case of the Moose Jaw Municipal Airport the CAP program has allocated $120,000 for Apron II and Taxiway C engineering and earthworks Phase I and II.
Although the Province has allocated the funds to the City of Moose Jaw the City is not spending any additional funds as part of the cost sharing agreement, said Maryse Carmichael city manager when asked about the project’s funding by MJ Independent.
“A portion of the business plan for the Airport Authority has various fundings that are sources of revenue for the (Moose Jaw) Airport Authority,” Carmichael said.
The funding ranges from City grants, revenue from adjacent farmland rental and revenue from hangars at the airport.
When asked about the grants the City awards to the Airport Authority Carmichael said that the City would not be giving funding directly for this project.
“This is an amount that is given annually and through their business plan they allocate the way they decide (to spend it),” she said.
