SaskParty Holds Lumsden-Morse
In a by election where many of the electorate were worried they would split the vote the Saskatchewan Party easily maintained the seat.
But the upstart Saskatchewan United Party came in second besting the NDP who came in third.
A total of 4,933 people voted in the by election compared to 8,542 who voted in the 2020 Saskatchewan general election.
Blaine McLeod, a dairy farmer from Caronport who ran under the Saskatchewan Party banner, received 2648 votes or 53.7 percent of the vote.
Jon Hromek, who ran for the Saskatchewan United Party received 1121 votes or 22.7 percent of the vote.
The NDP’s Kaitlyn Stadnyk, a student who grew up in the constituency, received 1064 votes or 21.6 percent.
Although he won the seat handily McLeod saw his percentage of the vote he received dropped to 53.7 percent a drop from the 73.4 percent threat former SaskParty MLA Lyle Stewart received in the 2020 general provincial election.
It is likely Hromek picked up his support from SaskParty voters as well as the Buffalo Party.
Les Guillemin from the Buffalo Party received 1.1 percent of the vote - or 55 votes - compared to the 509 votes or 5.98 percent of the vote he received in 2022.
Isaiah Hunter for the Green Party received 38 votes or 0.8 percent compared to the 225 votes (2.65 percent) he received in the 2022 election.
The constituency became vacant after long-time MLA Lyle Stewart stepped down due to illness.
