Impaired Driving Investigation Turns Into Fentanyl Seizure
According to a Facebook posting - details have not been released to accredited media - the Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) managed to conduct a seizure of fentanyl and crystal meth as part of an impaired driver investigation sometime over the weekend.
Although no date and time were released the Facebook posting said the incident happened near the 700 block Thatcher Drive East.
“Upon further investigation, the driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged for impaired operation of a conveyance,” the posting states.
As a result of the impaired driving charges a search found:
12.5 grams of Fentanyl (street value of approximately $3700.00)
an unstated amount of Methamphetamine
Operational scale (often used to weigh narcotics)
Various household chemicals believed to be "cutting agents"
$2000.00 cash

As a result of the search the accused was additionally charged with possession of Fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act).
Although the release does not state it illicit fentanyl is often cut (combined) with other drugs - including meth - to give an illicit substance more of a kick at a cheap price.
With no quality controls users can end up with fatal doses causing death.
The MJPS posting did not state what form the suspected fentanyl was in.
Additionally, the name of the accused, whether they were released or held in custody for court, as well as when they will appear in court, was not part of the social media posting.
