Accused Pulls Houdini And Disappears

By Robert Thomas

Every year for decades a séance was held in the hopes of contacting the late great magician, Harry Houdini, from beyond the grave.

Although none of the séances to date have made contact with Houdini at least one accused at Tuesday morning’s Moose Jaw Provincial Court took inspiration from the great magician and has seemingly disappeared.

Set to appear before Judge David Chow on Tuesday morning’s docket Ahmree Gordon was once again a no show and his Legal Aid lawyer was seemingly left holding the bag.

Appearing on his client’s behalf Legal Aid lawyer Zakary Anderson told Judge David Chow His client was not an Court to face the five charges he’s accused of.

A repeat performance of his last schedule court appearance.

Anderson told the court if a warrant was issued for his client that he would have to withdraw as legal counsel.

Gordon is charged with sexual assault, assault, failure to appear to be photographed or fingerprinted, failure to attend court (twice) and having appeared before a court failure to surrender to a court order.

“To be frank I haven’t had contact with Mr. Gordon at any time,” Anderson said.

He detailed how a telephone number no longer worked, and there was no way to tell if Mr. Gordon had received any of the letters or emails that have been sent out to him by Legal Aid.

“I don’t know if he hasn’t been receiving any mail,” Anderson said, adding no mail had been returned as undelivered.

“I never received a response.”

Anderson told court “I believe it’s our standard practice to withdraw” at which point, he withdrew as Gordon’s legal counsel.

With no other option Judge Chow said “I will authorize a bench warrant to be issued, and I’m not prepared to hold that.”

At the present time Gordon is now wanted on a warrant.
