Police Seize Untaxed Cigarettes
Selling untaxed cigarettes sees a pair of Moose Jaw residents charged

At approximately 300 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the Moose Jaw Police Service executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1100 block of Duffield Crescent.
This was the result of an investigation by the MJPS in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance into the illegal possession and trafficking of contraband cigarettes.
As a result of the search, police located and seized 110,000 cigarettes, six fireams, over $52,000 in currency, and a small amount of Cocaine.
Forty six year old David Gillis has been charged with Unauthoized Possession of a Fiream, Breach of Fireams Prohibition Order, the Unsafe Storage of a Fiream, Possession of the Proceeds of Cime over $5000, Possession of Cocaine, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Unstamped Tobacco, and Possession of Unstamped Tobacco (Tobacco Tax Act).

Fifty-five year old Byron Glover has also been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Unstamped Tobacco and Possession of Unstamped Tobacco (Tobacco Tax Act).
Glover has been released and will make his first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Courtt on December 18, 2023.
Gillis has also been released and will make his first court appearance on Januay 15, 2024.
Crimes like this can put these substances into the hands of young people, defraud govenments of tax dollars, and support organized cime.
