Fourth Avenue Bridge Closed For Repairs

Starting today the Fourth Avenue Bridge (officially known as the Thunderbird Viaduct) will be closed to vehicle traffic until January 28th to allow for the installation of a catcher beam.

The bridge will remain open to pedestrian traffic during the repairs and inspection.

The catcher beam will be installed to help support the existing infrastructure.

During the repairs crews will also conduct exploration work on the bridge's deck to ascertain the condition of the reinforcing steel.

At the present time the City has been working on the design and major work on the structure.

While the bridge is closed businesses on both sides will remain open.

The alternative routes to access across the CPR mainline are the 9th Avenue SW Bridge or the 2nd Avenue SE underpass.
