Outbreak Declared At Popular Moose Jaw Eatery

After declaring the last outbreak 15 days ago the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has declared a COVID - 19 outbreak at a popular Moose Jaw eatery.

On Sunday the SHA issued a public service announcement warning about the increased risk of contracting the virus at Brown’s Social House and on Tuesday the Province’s web-site published that an outbreak has been declared at the popular restaurant \lounge that was declared on Saturday September 4th.

The public service announcement at Browns dealt with the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, August 26: 12:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.

  • Saturday, August 28: 5:00 p.m. to 1 a.m.

  • Sunday, August 29: 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

  • Monday, August 30: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, August 31: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The outbreak takes the number of declared outbreaks in Moose Jaw back up to four from three after the outbreak declared at Marcie Personal Care Home on August 22nd was removed from the list.

The list of active declared outbreaks in Moose Jaw are:

  • Brown's Socialhouse September 4, 2021 Restaurant

  • CP Rail August 22, 2021 Workplace

  • Pioneer Lodge - Memory Lane August 22, 202 1Long-Term Care Home

  • Capilano Court August 8, 2021 Care Home

A declaration of an outbreak does not necessarily mean that there is any danger to the community but it is declared as part of the Public Health Order enacted by the Province. All outbreaks are posted on the Province’s web-site.

The SHA defines an outbreak as two people contracting COVID - 19 in the same place away from the home at the same time or over a period of time. The final determination is made by public health officials.

Outbreaks remain listed until officially declared over by an SHA Medical Health Officer.

Generally, outbreaks would be declared over after there were no new cases and two full incubation periods from the last individual who started having symptoms.

For COVID-19 outbreaks, this would be 28 days (2 incubation periods of 14 days) after the last individuals started showing symptoms.

The SHA continues to recommend people take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID - 19 by proper physical distancing, proper handwashing, wearing masks in public places and when a two meter distance cannot be maintained between others and staying home when you are sick, even if the symptoms are mild.

The SHA also encourages those feeling ill to stay home and call the Healthline at 811.

At the present time there are 33 active cases of COVID - 19 in the South Central 2 Zone that includes Moose Jaw.

The location of cases is based upon the address on the individual’s Saskatchewan Health Card.
