Readers' Question - Why Not Have Free Parking Over The Lunch Hour To Encourage Business?

It is a suggestion/question we have seen four times from our readers on how to encourage more business for the Downtown’s restaurants and that is to simply dispose of parking tickets during the noon hour.

At Tuesday morning’s on-line media scrum we put the question/suggestion to city manager Jim Puffalt.

In response Puffalt said to institute such a policy would be extremely difficult to do.

“I don’t know that is a difficult thing to do,” he said when asked about the potential of the idea. “I think it is hard to do.”

He pointed out things like people showing up at 11:55 am and getting tickets as a result. Although he did admit the new parking app might have the potential to make the idea feasible.

“Logistically it is a difficult thing to do,” he said.

He also pointed out that at lunchtime there was already lots of cars parked Downtown over the lunch hour at the present time.

A mention was made about the Downtown Association having input.

To assist our readers we contacted a member of the Downtown Moose Jaw Association Inc who promised to bring the idea up at a future meeting for discussion to look at the merits of the suggestion.
