Remainder Of Curling Season Becomes A COVID - 19 Casualty
It was seen as a potential bright spot in the recovery of Mosaic Place but the COVID - 19 pandemic was just too much sweeping to get the rock across the hog line and finish out the remainder of the 2020 - 2021 curling season.
Today Mosaic Place announced that due to the continued COVID - 19 restrictions the difficult decision had been made to discontinue the remainder of the curling season.
In a season where Curling Canada had predicted in February 2020 would be a windfall of participation and interest from the community in the sport locally, due to the highly successful hosting of the 2020 Scotties, the effects of the COVID - 19 restrictions lead to its ultimate demise.
“After careful thought, consultation with stakeholders and consideration of the Government of Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 restrictions remaining in effect until January 29th (at minimum), it is with mixed emotions that the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre has made the difficult decision to cancel the remain der of the 2020-2021 curling season,” Mosaic Place said in a Thursday afternoon news release.
Although the remainder of the curling season has been cancelled there has been no announcement about the Moose Jaw Warriors WHL season and what impact the extension of the COVID - 19 restrictions will have. The WHL recently committed to a 24 game regular season but gave no date when the season would commence.
Spectra Management also extended their appreciation to the participants and fans of curling for their patience working through the challenges that the pandemic and the restrictions during the first half of the season.
Spectra also announced that they are anticipating the next curling season, the 10th at the Ford Curling Centre, set to commence in October 2021.
