Main Street Will Have Second Road Closure
The repair and replacement of infrastructure has another section of Main Street N set to be closed to traffic.
From this coning Monday July 6th the intersection of Main St N and High Street will be closed to vehicles. The closure is expected to last into the week of July 13th weather permitting.
The closure is to allow the City's contractor NIS Construction Limited to continue work on Phase Five of Cast Iron Water Main replacement.
As part of Phase Five cast iron water mains are being replaced on High Street W from Main Street to the intersection of Third Avenue NW.
The intersection of High St. West and First Avenue NW will reopen to traffic while work is completed on Main St., and two-way traffic will continue on the 100 and 200 blocks of High St. West, with the eastbound lanes still closed to allow completion of the water main replacement project.
So far the project has the water back on on the 200 block of High St. West, and concrete work has begun.
Water main replacement also continues on Fairford St. East, with the 0-200 blocks closed to vehicle traffic.
Local businesses in the respective construction corridors remain open and the City would like to remind residents and visitors that you may park free at all City meters until further notice, as directed by Moose Jaw City Council. This includes the parking lot on First Avenue NW that provides rear access to 0 block High St. businesses.
Sidewalk business access is also available but may be temporarily impacted at a later date as construction progresses.
Starting this Sunday there will also be a major detour as Main Street North is closed from Town and Country Drive to Thatcher Drive.
The road is closed to facilitate the repair of the CN railway crossing across Main Street N. The crossing has been the source of numerous problems over the last few years with the inside southbound lane closed to vehicle traffic since early February.
