Province Reports Two Deaths From Covid - 19

It is something that had so far been avoided in the daily statistics but on Sunday two people in Saskatchewan passed away from complications caused by Covid - 19.

The two Saskatchewan residents were from separate parts of the province and died in hospital as a result of complications related to the COVID-19 virus.  The two fatalities represent the first deaths in Saskatchewan tied to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the deaths was related to travel.  Both of the victims were in their 70s.

Additonal bad news was that the numbers of people who have contracted Covid - 19 in Saskatchewan once again rose day to day with 20 new, confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 176.

Five people are in hospital across the province, including four in acute care and one in the intensive care unit (ICU):

  • One inpatient case is located in the north, and three in Saskatoon.

  • One ICU case is located in Regina.

  • At least eight cases are a result of local transmission.  The rest are travel-related or cluster-related due to exposure at mass gatherings.

  • Five cases concern individuals 19 years of age and under; all other cases are adults.

  • 80 cases are in the 20-44 age range; 62 are in the 45-64 range; and 29 are in the 65-plus range.

  • 55 per cent of the cases are males and 45 per cent are females.

In the positive side six more people have recovered province-wide bringing the total number of people who have recovered to 14.

There may be more cases yet to be reported to Public Health.

So 9,651 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan at the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory an increase of 565 from yesterday’s update.

Locally there are reports the Wigmore Hospital is still taking precautionary measures in case of an influx of people with Covid - 19. The measures include a tent erected in the Emergency exit ot the hospital. There is also signage at the end of the tent asking people to stop before entering the reception/waiting area of the hospital.

Locally there is a off-site testing centre in the city where people must be referred to in order to be tested. The location is not being released to the public.
