Hundreds Of Drivers Fail School Zone Speed Limit Test
If Saskatchewan drivers were being tested when it comes to school zones more than a few would be repeating the same grade. That's the word from SGI after their monthly Traffic Safety Spotlight focused on speeding in school zones.
During September 1424 tickets were issued to drivers for exceeding the speed limit in school zones.
The figures do not include tickets issued by photo radar during September. Moose Jaw has photo radar on Caribou Street West adjacent to William Grayson School.
The SGI numbers also do not specify how many tickets were issued by officers from the Moose Jaw Police Service.
Additionally SGI did not release the Regina numbers where the speed limit in school zones was reduced from 40 km\hr to 30 kn\hr. Moose Jaw's school and playground zone speed limit remains at 40 km\hr during the hours of 8 am - 6 pm seven days s week.
During the focus on school zones 13 tickets were issued for failing to yield to pedestrians.
Additionally four tickets were issued for passing or failing to stop more than five meters from a school bus when it's safety lights are activated. In the City of Moose Jaw it is illegal for a school bus to activate its stop arm and safety lights when loading or unloading passengers.
The SGI Safety Spotlight was announced at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
