South Hill Gets New Pedestrian Walking Signals

Robert Thomas

The intersection of 9th SW and Lillooet St W will soon have new signals.

In response to a question by Councillor Chris Warren, the Engineering Department reported there will soon be four pedestrian signals there. At the present time there are only two signals on the south and west sides.

In a written response, City Engineer Josh Mickleborough wrote that a review had been completed on the intersection and as a result all four corners will soon have hand and walk signals on the traffic poles to meet engineering standards.

Improvements to traffic signals are based upon Severely Weighted Collision Rates. This measure takes into consideration the number of collisions and if someone was injured. By doing this limited resources are used to address the most dangerous intersections in the City, Mickleborough’s written response stated.
