Cutting Horses Competition Featured This Weekend At The Exhibition

The next three days will see horses and cattle take over the Moose Jaw Exhibition’s (250 Thatcher Drive East) Golden Mile Arena for their annual competition.

From this Friday, August 2nd, to Sunday August 4th the Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association will host their annual competitions.

Featuring approximately 100 participants this major show will feature cowboys and cowgirls cutting cattle out of a small herd.

The sport is one dominated by silence as the goal is to cut or select a chosen animal from a small herd with as little of a disturbance as possible.

The roots of the sport harken back to the beginnings of communal pasturing and sorting cattle to their proper owners at the end of the grazing season.

“It’s a great thing to come and watch if you care to?” George Fowler general manager of the Moose Jaw Exhibition said.

The event is FREE to attend.

The concession will be open during the event.

The event gets underway about 9 am on all three days and wraps up in the mid afternoon once all events for the day are completed.
