Camaro Winner Says He Will Be Driving For Donuts Not Doing Them

When Rob Clark woke up Sunday morning and took a look at his phone he first thought he was the victim of an elaborate practical joke.

But as he scrolled down through his messages that said simply Congratulations he came upon one that said “Congratulations you just won the car.”

At that instant he remembered there was a draw the night before. Clark quickly checked the Moose Jaw Shriners Facebook page and discovered he was the winner.

“It feels absolutely amazing. I'm very, very happy about it. I still have no plans mind you (for the car) but yeah it's been good,” Clark said speaking about his raffle luck with MJ Independent.

Clark is the grand prize winner of a 2022 Black Bowtie Edition Chevrolet Camaro in the Moose Jaw Shrine Club’s fourth annual car raffle.

Other winners were $2000 won by Dalton Dosh of Willow Bunch and $1,000 was won by Troy Williams of Moose Jaw. The winner of the $9,945 50/50 draw was Jordan Schenher.

“I haven't won a lot of things in my day so it is pretty nice to see the car and I am very, very happy I can fit into it and I can get out of it those were two of my big concerns,” he said.

The win leaves Clark and his wife with four cars meaning a few of them may go - likely the Camaro.

“We have a 91 T-Bird, an Impala, my car and now the Camaro,” Clark said, going on to joke “so maybe we need to add on to the house with a couple more garages. I don't think we will be keeping all of the cars.”

Clark said he initially bought $100 worth of tickets earlier in the spring and another $100 worth of tickets in the run up to the draw. He said he did not know if it was the earlier or the later purchased tickets where the winning ticket came from.

“I had ten tickets in total. My investment was $200.”

Asked if he would now be out cruising Main Street North and doing donuts Clark said those days were behind him.

“I might be eating donuts but I won't be doing them. I might have cruised Main (Street) I don't want to tell you how many years ago…probably a few decades ago I use to cruise Main (Street) up and down Main there in my cars before so and then stop at the popcorn stand.”

Back in the day Moose Jaw's Main Street was the place where people would dress up in their best clothes and congregate on the street corners. Dozens of cars would cruise up and down Main Street. Main had many places to stop at open at night and the popcorn stand was iconic.

Clark said he may well sell the Camaro.

“If I sell it it helps with my retirement or doing something else with the money. Right now I am undecided but I'm assuming I will be selling it” he said.

Clark said it wasn't thoughts of winning the draw that motivated his buying the tickets but the good works the Moose Jaw Shrine Club does in the community.

“They do so many wonderful works too and things. The traveling fund they have for the burn unit or burn patients. They do a lot of things in town and they're always active.”

“You know I never thought about winning I know a lot of the guys involved in the car raffle and ever since they started I always purchased about the same (amount of tickets). I just hope some of that money goes to good use,” he said, adding “I know every dollar they make it goes to good use. I wish I could do more but any way it was more so as a donation is how I think about it.”
