Highway To Heroes Car Show Set To Vroom Back Into Moose Jaw
One of the largest car shows in Moose Jaw - if not the province - is about to drive in to the Friendly City.
Held for the past five years at 15 Wing Moose Jaw the Highway To Heroes Car Show, sponsored by the Friends Of The Forces Fellowship, is making the move from the base to the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds (250 Thatcher Drive East) on July 16th.
The last time the Highway To Heroes Car Show was held, in 2018, at 15 Wing Moose Jaw 500 cars were entered and 8,000 spectators took in the show.
The reason for the move to the Exhibition Grounds is due to extenuating circumstances after the two year COVID - 19 pandemic shut down most activities in both military and civilian life.
Unlike most car shows this year’s edition of the Highway To Heroes Car Show will also have as headline performers Jet Stream a 12 piece show band.
Jet Stream will perform two indoor concerts in the Moose Exhibition Convention Centre. The concerts will run from noon - 12:45 pm and 2:45 pm - 3:30 pm.
Jet Stream appeals to all ages, playing a variety of rock, pop, country and disco.
“We are delighted to have the RCAF musical groups at the car show and invite Moose Jaw and district residents to attend the performances,” Roy LaBuick, car show chairperson and chair of the Fellowship said in a statement.
Additional musical entertainment will be provided by Second Line Brass Band who will be doing walk-a-bout music among the cars.
Admission, which includes all car show activities, is $10 for adults; $5 for children six to 12 years; and free for pre-school age.
Car show gates open at 8:30 a.m. and the spectator gate opens at 10 a.m.
Events will continue until at least 4 p.m., and will include viewing of the cars, trucks and motorcycles expected to attend, a silent auction, raffle and 50-50 draws, food concessions and related car show displays. Plus musical entertainment.
Friends Of The Forces (formerly known as 15 Wing Fellowship) is a local group which has local projects which have an emphasis on military families and veterans.
Close to $120,000 raised from past shows has been donated to various projects including the Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre, cadet organizations, Stars Ambulance, Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Wounded Warriors, Quilts of Valour, Support Our Troops, Make a Wish Foundation, Moose Jaw Transition House, Moose Jaw Food Bank, school scholarships, Remembrance Day observances and Salvation Army toy drives.
Organizers say they would like to publicly thank local and area businesses who are once again contributing through financial and in-kind support. They would also like to thank the 100 volunteers who give their time to make the event happen.
