KidSport Calls For Donors To Help Out Their Program
If you ask a lot of the people behind youth sports in Moose Jaw there are plenty of benefits to be involved.
Benefits that go far behind the obvious keeping active.
Sports can help build teamwork skills, social skills, give children goals and a purpose to strive for and make new lifelong friends.
Unfortunately not all families have the financial means to enroll their children in organized sports.
This is where an organization called KidSport helps out by assisting youth to take part in organized sports.
KidSport is funded by Sask Lotteries as well as local donations. The organization has been active in Moose Jaw for 15 years.
Fifty percent of the money KidSport needs to help paying sports fees must be raised locally.
In 2023 the local Moose Jaw KidSport paid out $80,000 to assist nearly 250 families by paying out sports fees on their behalf.
To help raise the 50 percent of money needed KidSport puts on various events in the community to raise funds.
Since 2019 one of the event KidSport has held is the Kayak for KidSport (K4K).
K4K is an annual event held in the Wakamow Valley.
According to a release the event aims to raise funds to help remove families' financial barriers to putting kids in organized sports activities. It is a win-win situation for kids, families, sports organizations, and the Moose Jaw community.
One way we raise funds is through the Corporate Challenge canoe "races" at our annual K4K event.
The cost to enter or sponsor a two person canoe in the race is $250.
“You can either sponsor a canoe (our committee provides the paddlers) or man the canoe/kayak yourselves,” the release states.
“We also need/accept donations of smaller items and gift cards as giveaways. There are lots of different ways to help. Please note that straight cash donations receive a CRA charitable receipt.”
Individuals are also welcome to donate.
One hundred percent of funds raised locally are used locally.
