Tough Day For The Canucks U18A

A strong fifth inning by the Balcarres Broncs combined with a couple of fielding errors saw the Moose Jaw U18A Canucks lose 15 - 10 on a rare Monday afternoon game.

The Canucks and Broncs were tied 5 - 5 after four innings.

For Canucks head coach Ethan La Rose the game was their’s for the winning until the fateful fifth inning - the league plays seven inning games.

“This game definitely got away from us. We should have won this game for sure.”

Despite the loss La Rose said the team had improved from the start of the season.

“It was a good game. It was a solid game. They came out with lots of energy at the start. The second half was lacklustre, kind of lazy and we lost our flow a little bit,” he said. “But it’s an improvement from our first couple of games we played for sure.”

The fifth inning broke the Canucks back with Balcarres scoring six runs on two fielding errors in what had been a tie game.

“There were some mental errors (in the fifth inning). It’s our biggest thing is we need to you know we need to stay mentally locked into the game at all times,” he said.

“I’ve got a good group of kids here I think they’ll figure it out before the season ends.”

Despite the mental errors La Rose said the Canucks 2024 edition has a lot of potential.

THE COACHES DISCUSS THE GAME WITH THE PLAYERS FOLLOWING THE LOSS

“It’s a solid team. I like this group. They all mesh well together. They work well together so that’s a big thing for me if they can all get along and work well together,” he said, adding “we can improve on any shortcomings as long as they can work well together.”

During the post game meeting the coaches went over what went wrong and how to overcome it.

“We are going to go back to the drawing board at practice and bring some improvements,” La Rose said.

“I’m excited to see what we can do for the rest of the season.”

With the loss the team’s regular season record is 2 - 2.

The Canucks U18A next game is this Wednesday at Bell Park - Montgomery Field versus the Regina White Sox. The game starts at 6:30 pm.
