Hazardous Waste Day This Saturday
With Wednesday evening’s fire at the landfilled suspected to be caused by someone discarding lithium ion battery this Saturday the City is offering a better way to handle such waste.
On Saturday April 9th the City will be holding the first of two annual Household Hazardous Waste Days.
Household Hazardous Waste Day is the opportunity for residents to safely dispose of toxic products - such as chemicals - in a safe manner instead of simply tossing them into the landfill where they have the potential of entering the environment.
The FREE of charge event will be held at the City Complex, 1010 High St. West.
Among materials accepted:
- Aerosol Cans (Hair Spray, deodorant, household cleaners etc.)
- Liquid household cleaners
- Batteries (Lithium ion, alkaline, rechargeable etc.)
- Light bulbs (Fluorescent, LED, metal halide etc.)
The City would like to remind residents that used motor oil, oil filters, oil containers and anti-freeze may be freely disposed of at the City landfill during regular hours.
Additionally paint and electronic products may be dropped off at SARCAN during their regular business hours.
