City To Hold Town Hall About Potential Upgrades To “Death Trap” Intersection
Improvements to the intersection of 9th Avenue NW and the Trans Canada Highway have been a hot topic at Council and now the City is offering residents their say on the issue.
On December 1st at 5:30 p.m. a Tiwn Hall meeting will be held at the Moose Jaw Events Centre (former Mosaic Place) in Room 204 and 205 to discuss the potential upgrades to the intersection.
Results from the Town Hall meeting will be recorded and provided to the Department of Highways.
The intersection of 9th Avenue NW and the Trans Canada Highway has been described as a “Death Trap” by Mayor Clive Tolley.
The City, along with the North Service Road Business Group, has been advocating the Department of Highways to install traffic control lights at the intersection in an effort to make it safer.
Over the years the intersection has seen extensive safety upgrades with the Department of Highways declining to install traffic control lights.
This iteration of the request for traffic control at the intersection includes the fact the intersection will see more semi activity due to recent as well as still to be named industrial development.
Industrial development by some firms who are “heavy hitters” with the SaskParty government.
There has been numerous deaths and serious injuries at the intersection over the years and the City has been asking for traffic control lights for decades.
