City Announces Contractor And Locations For 2021 Water Main Replacements
Spring may have arrived early this year and so to were the tenders as the City of Moose Jaw has announced not only the streets, but the contractor and the construction work is to commence next week on April 7th.
The City has selected NIS Contractors from Regina, who was the contractor in 2020, to do the work.
NIS will be first completing the two portions of the 2020 program that could not be completed due the arrival of Winter weather and then move on to the 2021 portion of the cast iron water main replacement program.
Construction is set to commence on April 7th for the remaining work which is as follows:
- 900 block of Stadacona St. East
- 1200 block of 3rd Ave. NW
The contractor has already notified property owners of the upcoming work and the road closures which will need to take place in order to do the work. On top of road closures there will be detours marked with signage.
For 2021 NIS will do the majority of the work as part of the $5.8 million allocated to replace just over 3 kilometers of cast iron water mains.
The five locations selected to have their cast iron water mains replaced are as follows:
- Elsom St. from Main St. N to 2nd Ave. SE (416m)
- Caribou St. W from 4th Ave. NW to 10th Ave. NW (1370m)
- 7th Ave NW from Caribou St. W to Saskatchewan St. W (661m)
- Carleton St. from 9th Ave. NW to 10th Ave. NW (275m)
- Fairford St. E from 3rd Ave. NE to 5th Ave. NE (290m) (To be performed by a separate contractor under the servicing contract for the Agri-Food Industrial Park)
The $5.8 million budgeted for the 2021 portion of the Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Program is part of the $117-million program 20 year program approved by Council in 2015.
