Wide Array Of Frontline Professional Groups Under 40 Eligible For Vaccine Tomorrow

Depending on what you do for a living if you are a member of a frontline group dealing with the COVID - 19 pandemic you will be eligible for vaccination starting tomorrow.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has loosened the rules effective tomorrow, April 30th, at 8 am to allow a wide array of frontline workers access to be vaccinated if they so choose.

Immunization has been extended to all of the following under the current age eligibility (40+):

  • police officers

  • firefighters

  • volunteer firefighters

  • correctional staff

  • border security officers

  • public health inspectors

  • teachers and educational staff working with students

  • daycare staff at facilities attached to schools

  • and front-line healthcare workers with direct patient contact employed by the SHA or private employers (including dentists, chiropractors, and optometrists).

The above mentioned front-line workers, under the current age criteria (40+) can be immunized by:

  • Booking an appointment by phone at 1-833-SASKVAX (1-833-727-5829)

  • Attending a drive-thru or walk-in clinic

  • Visiting a participating pharmacy

It should be noted that many of the groups effected by the new policy - most notably teachers, educational staff working with students and police officers - have been vocal asking to be included in the vaccination effort irregardless of their age. Sadly educational staff including teacher in Prince Albert and an Educational Assisted right here in Moose Jaw have passed away from COVID - 19 before they would have been eligible for vaccination.

The City of Moose Jaw has recently asked everyone who can be vaccinated to be vaccinated as soon as the opportunity presents itself. This would include residents in these essential frontline occupations as well.

A drive-thru clinic this Sunday in Moose Jaw will be the first local opportunity for members of these frontline groups and those 40 years of age and over to be vaccinated locally.

Proof of employment will need to be shown at the time of immunization in the form of a pay stub dated no later than Mar. 1, 2021, or a letter from their employer, or a copy of a professional license.

Booking online is not available for this group

Notice of eligibility is being provided to regulatory bodies and associations.  To confirm that you are included in this front-line worker category, call 1-833-SASKVAX (1-833-727-5829) or email covid19@health.gov.sk.ca.
