Two Pipes With One Trench

The Cast Iron Water Main Replacement program is back working on High Street West this year.

As part of Phase Five of the program High Street W from the 0 block to the intersection of Third Avenue NW is being replaced. The section of cast iron water mains from Third Avenue NW to 9th Avenue NW has already been completed.

The City is replacing the corroded and past end of service life cast iron pipes with a new PVC main pipe.

The larger diameter PVC pipe has greater capacity than the cast iron pipe it is replacing on the south side of High Street. This allows for the abandonment the newer but outdated concrete-asbestos water main that services the north side of the street.

The concrete-asbestos pipe is not being removed from the ground.

People connected to the project said such a move does not cause any forseeable problems.
