City Announces Schedule For Re-Opening Facilities
City facilities, including City Hall, have been closed to the public since mid - March due to provincial orders in response to the COVID - 19 pandemic. But closures will soon end.
On Wednesday the City of Moose Jaw released dates for when the Kinsmen Sportsplex, Yara Centre and City Hall will re-open for the public.
Under the Province's declared State of Emergency to combat the spread of the COVID - 19 pandemic non-essential businesses, schools, churches and municipal facilities were forced to close their doors to the public.
For the City of Moose Jaw it meant the following facilities either had to close or not allowed to re-open:
City Hall
Arenas including Mosaic Place, Pla-Mor Palace
Kinsmen Sportsplex including the indoor ppool
Yara Centre
Moose Jaw Cultural Centre
Moose Jaw Public Library
Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery
Spray Parks
Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool
Sports Fields
Playground Apparatus
City Hall
On Monday City Hall will be re-open to the public. City Hall will be open for reduced hours from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m..
Despite re-opening there are a number of safety measures being put in place.
A desk has been set up in the main entryway and anyone entering must be screened in an effort to prevent any potential spreading of the COVID - 19 virus.
That screening will include answering a health questionnaire and having a temperature check.
All visitors will be required to use hand sanitizer and are recommended to wear masks.
Visitors are required to sign in and to sign out.
Appointments are necessary to meet with members of Administration or the mayor.
There will be capacity limits throughout the building including council meetings.
Kinsmen Sportsplex
The Kinsmen Sportsplex including the indoor pool has a targeted re-opening of August 13th.
Staff who were laid off will have to be re-called, re-trained with new pandemic procedures and in some cases their certifications re-newed.
The pools will need to be filled, heated and treated prior to the re-opening.
There will also need to be some physical modifications undertaken to comply with provincial regulations regarding COVID - 19.
Yara Centre
The fitness centre and walking track are slated to re-open August 10th.
Details are still being worked out to the availability of turf rentals.
The summer day camp and outdoor fitness classes started on July 6th.
Re-opening dates for city arenas, including Mosaic Place, remain under review with details being announced once solid information is available.
