Public Works Week Declared

They are often the people who take the blunt end of public criticism and frustration as they are on the front lines when it comes to providing many of the services we all enjoy. At the same time they are the people who come to repair things when they are broken.

The majority of the time they are also the people who are not the ones to criticize but they are the ones who for example wade in water higher than their boots in an open excavation when it is -40 C to close a valve or clear snow within set procedures and budgets. They are the workers for Public Works.

To help foster a greater understanding of what Public Works does Moose Jaw Mayor Fraser Tolmie has declared May 19 - 25 as Public Works Week - “It Starts Here.”

“Public Works Infrastructure, facilities and services are of vital importance to our health, safety and well-being,” Mayor Tolmie said in making the proclamation.

Public works includes sanitation, streets and roads, bridges, water and wastewater, public transportation, parks and green space maintenance and facilities.

On Wednesday May 22nd from 11 am to 2 pm the public can come out and get a look at some of the heavy equipment used by City of Moose Jaw crews as well as meet some of the people who do the work. There will be face painting, games, interactive information and flower planting.

Additionally there Taco in a bag, TCBY and a drink available with a donation to the Family First Radiothon which helps out buying equipment for the Wigmore Hospital.
