Survey Shows Regular Prices At Liquor Store Cheaper Than Big Box Competitor

If you are someone who buys alcoholic beverages and have come to believe the regular prices at the Saskatchewan Liquor Board Store on Manitoba Street are cheaper for some popular products than the regular prices at the Sobey’s liquor store you now have evidence to back up your anecdotal observations.

The Saskatchewan Government Empoyees Union (SGEU) - who represent workers employed at the Saskatchewan Liquor Board Store - has released a survey of the REGULAR PRICING (note it does not include items on sale) of 34 popular products. In all cases the survey showed the regular everyday pricing was cheaper at the Saskatchewan Liquor Board Store. The survey was conducted March 6-9, 2019.

The survey found the Sobey’s regular everyday prices were on average seven percent higher and in some cases the difference was as much as 15 percent or higher on the 34 products surveyed.

Nobody at the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority could be contacted prior to press time. However they did tell CTV News in Regina that the survey prices do not take into account sales (discounted) prices at the private outlets.
