SCRAPS would like to see people dress up for Halloween but wearing a costume is optional.

“We have lots of people who come dressed up in costume every year. It is a big event for lots if people. But you are welcome to come even if you don't wear a costume,” said Anne Marciszyn a member of SCRAPS.

There will also be a special draw for people who bring a cat food item whether it be wet or dry food.

“We are especially looking for food for kittens,” Marciszyn said explaining last year the group had to make efforts to assist feral cats but this year they are inundated with kittens.

The mission of SCRAPS is not just to rescue and assist feral cats but it also to deal with the problem of a growing feral cat population.

SCRAPS is a TNR or Trap, Neuter and Release program where they capture feral cats, give them health checkups with a veterinarian, tattoo the cat and after spaying or neutering it release the cat back into its original environment.

The uniqueness of SCRAPS program is they are not only a group which helps out cats but they also - through neutering and spaying - help naturally over time to reduce the feral cat population.

To do this SCRAPS helps out with 24 locations throughout the community where feral cats are fed and monitored.

SCRAPS has a number of kittens they take in and socialize to living with people and then offer them for adoption.

Cost of tickets are $22 for adults and children are $10 with any child three and under free.

Although there will be a limited number of tickets at the door the group encourages people to purchase early as the event traditionally sells out.

Tickets are being sold at various businesses throughout the city. For more information please call 306 693-0718 or 306 684-9048.
