Emma Cherney Awarded The Snowbird Scholarship

Emma Cherney, a graduate from Central Collegiate, with a 96.3 percent average has been awarded the 2022 Snowbird Scholarship. Cherney has been accepted at Medicine Hat College in the Bachelor of Nursing program.

Cherney, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program at #40 Snowbird Squadron for the past five years, and received leadership, citizenship and training awards.

The awards are “a reflection on her skills to train fellow cadets,” Mayor Clive Tolley said prior to presenting the scholarship.

Cherney was also heavily involved in Central Collegiate’s music program being part of the concert choir, vocal jazz and the Central Collegiagte musical theatre production which she played a leading role.

The Snowbird Scholarship was started by the City in 1991 where 75 percent of the annual interest of a trust fund is awarded to a deserving student by way of scholarship for furtherance of studies at any recognized post secondary institution to a deserving Grade 12 graduate who is also a Cadet member.
