Question Asked If Intersection To Receive Pedestrian Upgrades

A question was asked if a busy intersection would be receiving some pedestrian friendly upgrades now that a new hotel has been built in the area.

At Monday afternoon’s regular meeting Councillor Crystal Froese asked a question if plans included upgrades for the intersection of 9th Avenue NE and Thatcher Drive East.

“I was wondering if we have any plans of painting crosswalk lines on or putting up cross walk signs on the corner of 9th (Avenue) NE and Thatcher Drive (East) as now we have an additional hotel there and there are pathways that are going to be linked up there. I was just wondering if that is on the books,” Councillor Froese asked.

City engineer Bevan Harlton said nothing was planned for the intersection.

“I have no forse capital improvements at that intersection at this time,” Harlton responded.

Presently the intersection of 9th Avenue NE and Thatcher Drive East is a four way stop with pedestrians having the right of way at all times.
