Council Briefs For April 26th, 2021

NO MEDIA SCRUM FOR MAYOR EBY

Following the Council meeting MJ Independent approached Acting Mayor Councillor Heather Eby about her having to do the post-Council meeting press conference.

Acting Mayor Councillor Eby seemed confused about having to do the media scrum for Mayor Fraser Tolmie who was away attending to a very urgent family matter.

After glancing over to City Manager Jim Puffalt who said “no you don’t” the Acting Mayor looked relieved even though MJ Independent persisted.

With MJ Express reporter Jason G Antonio noting Craig Hemingway the City’s media relations manager was also absent from the actual meeting that the decision was already made the scrum was likely not suppose to be happening to the Acting Mayor’s relief.

Acting Mayor Eby seemed relieved when MJ Independent remarked she was walking away from her opportunity to be in the Council Hot Stove League.

It is not like the media could have asked her about her future personal political goals were (see next brief) as it is a few years to make any serious decisions. Or how she liked being the mayor.

In realty though and in Acting Mayor Eby’s defense an email had been sent out to all media prior to the meeting announcing the post Council news conference had been cancelled in light of Mayor Tolmie’s absence.

Acting Mayor Councillor Eby wasn’t on the list of those who received the memo.

But you cannot blame us for trying….

FACEBOOK COUNCIL POSTING

On her Facebook page - Heather Eby: City News, Views and Reviews Acting Mayor Councillor Eby did however post a photo and the following quote below.

“Mayor Tolmie is away so this is my view tonight from the big chair as Acting Mayor. Closest I plan to get!”

We might see something change in the final statement as the election is just under four years to go and lots of things can change…..
