Question About No Parking On Zero Block Of River Street West Answered

At one time the 0 block of River Street West was one of the most notorious streets in Moose Jaw with plenty of action and people parking, but today it is empty with no parking allowed.

At the March 22nd regular Council meeting Councillor Crystal Froese asked if the no parking signs that dot the street could be removed.

“Can we remove No Parking signs on first block of River Street West? If we can, when can this be done?” Councillor Froese had asked in an enquiry to Administration.

In response to the Councillor’s question Administration wrote back recommending that what is arguably the fanciest block in the city with very few buildings on it is too narrow to allow parking and two way traffic.

Removing the no parking restrictions would turn the 0 block of River Street West into a one way street, the answer from Administration read.

In her remarks regarding her enquiry Councillor Froese stated she wanted to get Administration’s answer out to the general public as it is a question she is asked about.

The real answer to the question was the street is too narrow to allow parking.

It needs to be noted before the historic hotels on the 0 block of River Street West were torn down to make way for a major hotel complex which never materialized that the block underwent a major rebuilding making it more attractive to tourists.
