U15 A Mavericks Start Playoffs With A Shutout

The Moose Carpet One U15 A Mavericks started their 2025 play off run by shutting out the visiting Regina Rebels White 3 - 0.

The shutout went to Mavericks’ goaltender Charlotte McKee.

The Mavericks, were the top team in the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League’s U15 A southwest division, finishing the regular season with a 14 - 2 - 4 record.

The Mavericks first round opponents are the southwest division’s fourth place Regina Rebels White. The Rebels White ended the regular season with an 8 - 10 - 2 record.

The last time the two teams met in the regular season the Mavericks won 12 - 2.

There was no scoring in the First Period.

The closest either team came to scoring was on a slow shot along the ice that beat Rebels White goaltender Jenny Murray and hit the post.

For the first six minutes of the first period the Mavericks managed to keep the puck inside the Rebels White’s blue line . Regina was unable to clear their zone but Moose Jaw failed to capitalize.

With about 10:45 left in the period Regina managed to apply pressure but failed to score on their best opportunity of the game.

The Second Period saw the scoreless tie end.

At 19:02 Willow Scott managed to score close in on the blocker side.

The Mavericks would score again at the 00:37 mark when Evelyn Stokes stepped in from defence and wired a shot into the twine.

The assist on the goal went to Taylor Hawkins.

The Third Period saw the Mavericks continue to dump the puck into the Rebels White’s end of the ice.

Pressure from the Mavericks prevented Regina from having a decent scoring opportunity in the third period.

The best opportunity for Regina was a long hard wrist hand shot from just inside the top of the left wing circle that hit the Mavericks McKee in the chest protector.

Other shots taken by Regina in the final frame were wide of the net.

Moose Jaw finished up the scoring at 2:01 when Marina Umana scored assisted by Sophia Page.

The best of three series now moves to Regina’s Wickenheiser Rink for Game Two on Saturday March 1st.

The puck drops at 5:30 pm.

Game Three, if necessary, returns to Moose Jaw’s Bert Hunt Arena at 12 pm on Sunday March 2nd.
