Minor Football Season Kicks Off Friday

This Friday (August 30th) evening a new era starts at Elks Field (part of the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Complex) as not only does the 2024 Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football season kick off.

But it will also be the first time the majorly upgraded Elks Field sees a football game.

To kick this weekend off Moose Jaw Minor Football has not two, not three, not four, not five but six football games over Friday and Saturday.

“We’re going to have all kinds of football up at the Kinsmen Sports Complex,” Brian Boys president of the Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football League told MJ Independent.

“We are just excited to get these kids onto the field and to kick off the season. You know it’s going to be a great weekend of football,” he said going on to invite residents of Moose Jaw and area to come out to enjoy the games and check out the renovations.

“Come on out and enjoy an event. It’s got music bumping and some great football.”

Boys said although they previously announced that the time would be up on Friday to join the league he said they would be willing to extend that date because they don’t want to take away anybody’s ability to come out and play football if they want to,

The renovations are the pride of the league this season.

Not only has the field seen a brand new LED score clock but there are new bleachers, a renovated concession building, new improved LED field lighting and the tower has been updated.

The sound system is yet to see an upgrade but it’s coming soon.

“Elks Field is a field that has been up there for years with older buildings and we got to renovate it all. It looks beautiful if you haven’t been up there you should go and check it out,” Boys said.

The pride of the upgrades is the brand new red LED score clock that replaced the aging bulb clock that adorned the field for decades.

“You are going to be shocked how good that place looks.”

The upgrades came about by a partnership of support between the City, Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club and Moose Jaw Minor Football.

It’s something Boys is thankful for.

Boys invites people to come out, check out the renovated facility, watch some football, buy some 50/50 tickets or buy a hamburger at the concession.

Admission is FREE.

Elks Field is located at 1600 Caribou Street West.

There are two main rules for fans - no smoking, vaping or chewing tobacco on the field and please no dogs.
