Friday evening was a tough evening for the Vanier Vikings as they saw the Shaunavon Shadows meaning a 42 - 0 shutout loss in 9 aside high school football.

The Vikings played a strong first quarter only allowing the Shadows to score a touchdown in the quarter’s dying moments.

The Shadows would continue to slowly move forward in the second quarter going ahead 14 - 0 at halftime.

For Vanier Vikings head coach Luke Tkatchuk the loss was a tough pill to swallow.

“The first half looked pretty good. It was a pretty even matchup. We made some critical mistakes at the start of the second half. We’ll fix our mistakes and be ready for a pretty good game in Shaunavon,” Tkatchuk said.

The now 2 - 2 Vikings are expected to end up in third place while 4 - 0 Shadows are yet to face the 4 - 0 wall of monsters Lumsden.

Shaunavon Shadows Cash Lewans was a major force on the field. For the record Lewans is in grade eleven so will likely be back next season.

Winning Friday evening’s game would have likely meant the Vikings would have hosted a coveted home playoff game.

“It’s too bad (not hosting a playoff game) but it is what it is,” he said.

The Vikings plans are to review the game film, fix their mistakes and get ready for Gull Lake next Friday evening at Elks Field.
