Junior Girls Volleyball Now In Full Swing

It was a big night on Wednesday evening as the local city junior girls volleyball league got underway.

The league was in full swing as 11 teams battled on the court at three different venues - Peacock Collegiate, Riverview Collegiate and Vanier Collegiate.

At Vanier Collegiate Peacock Green, Central Red and Vanier were playing.

At Riverview Collegiate four teams - Riverview, Cornerstone, Avonlea and Central Butte took to the court.

Peacock Toilers Orange

At Peacock Collegiate the Peacock Toilers Orange team had a big evening as they defeated all three opponents in straight sets.

The Peacock Toilers won all three of their matches in two sets against their opponents.

The Toilers won their match 2 sets to 0 sets against the Central Cyclones Gold team.

Set One the Toilers won 25 - 4.

Set Two the Toilers won 25 - 18.

The Toilers had a tough time against the Rouleau Rebels. The Rebels fought to the bitter end in both sets.

Set one the score was 26 - 24 for the Toilers.

Set two had an identical 26 - 24 score for the Toilers.

In the final matchup the Toilers had an easy time against the Notre Dame Hounds.

The set one score was Toilers 25 and the Hounds 7.

The second set saw the Toilers win with an identical 25 - 7 score.

Central Cyclones Gold

The night wasn’t the best for the Central Cyclones Gold team as they only one of their three matchups.

The Cyclones fell against the Peacock Toilers in straight sets 25 - 4 and 25 - 18.

Against the Rouleau Rebels the Cyclones once again lost the match in two straight sets.

The set scores were 25 - 14 and 25 - 7 in Rouleau’s favour.

Squaring off against the Notre Dame Hounds the Central Cyclones faired much better taking the match in two street sets.

The first set score was Central 25 and Notre Dame 23.

The second set score was Central 25 and Notre Dame 17.

Notre Dame Hounds

On the scoresheet, it was not a good night for the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Hounds would lose all three matchups they had in straight sets.

The set scores in the match against Peacock were 25 - 7 and 25 - 7 in Peacock’s favour.

The matchup between Central Cyclones was closest the Hounds came to winning a set.

The Hounds would lose the first set 25 - 23.

The second set saw the Hounds lose 25 - 17.

The matchup against the Rouleau Rebels saw the Hounds lose 25 - 15 and 25 - 10.

Rouleau Rebels

The highlight of the night was the match between the Rebels and the Toilers Orange team.

The two sets saw both teams be aggressive around the net as well as strong passing and serving.

Rallies were longer with the serve, alternating back-and-forth between the two teams.

Despite a valiant effort in the end the Rebels fell 26 - 24 in the first set.

The second set would end with the same 26 - 24 result with Peacock scoring, the winning point when the Rebels returned the ball out of bounds.

The Rebels won two sets 25 - 14 and 25 - 7 to win their match against the Central Cyclones Gold team.

Versus the Notre Dame Hounds the Rebels once again won the match in two straight sets with scores of 25 - 15 and 25 - 10 in the Rebels favour.
