Cornerstone Dominates In City High School Badminton Finals

It was a packed house at Peacock Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon as the city high school senior badminton championship was held.
The event saw Cornerstone Christian School repeat as the team champions, two grade nines capturing the girls double crown and a hotly contested boys singles championship that went right down to the wire.
Senior Boys Singles
The senior boys singles city championship was decided after a three game match between Peacock Collegiate’s Allan Lu versus Central Collegiate’s Nigel Fang.
After three hotly contested and close games Fang would be the victor and claim the gold medal.

Senior Girls Singles
There was a little surprise that Cornerstone’s Kiana Hrechka what is the gold medallist in senior girls singles play.
Hrechka had been a top finisher throughout the three weeks of regular season play.

Senior Boys Doubles
The senior boys doubles had two Cornerstone teams medal.
Cornerstone would claim both the gold and bronze medal in senior boys, doubles.

Senior Girls Doubles
The senior girls doubles had a surprise gold medal winner when two grade 9 students from Cornerstone Christian School defeated two grade 12 students from Peacock Collegiate to claim the crown.

Gold - Payton Fisher & Ademide Adewumi (Cornerstone)
Silver - Jess Selensky & Makena Simmons (Peacock)
Bronze - Rizza Alimoot & Kristen Ma (Vanier)
Mixed Doubles
Mixed doubles play once again saw Cornerstone pick up two medals.

Silver - Aswin Abraham and Rebecca Gutek (Cornerstone)

Team Award
In the team award Cornerstone repeated as the winner. Cornerstone managed to accumulate 19 points from their 11 medal winners.

Districts This Weekend
With the city championships now over play moves onto the district finals to be held this Saturday at Peacock Collegiate.
Play starts at 9 AM and this year will feature the Bantam (grade nine) as well as Senior (grades 10 - 12) at a single event.
Admission to the event is $3 for adults - $2 for students - with all funds being used to help fund league expenses.
