Central Red Easily Captures City High School Junior Boys Trophy

Photos and Story by Robert Thomas

For Central Cyclones junior boys basketball head coach Barry Seaborn the family business is selling insurance.

Insurance, a business built upon risks.

For Seaborn's Central Cyclones Red team most people thought there was no risk the team was going to be beaten this season

For Seaborn, the insurance agent, the real risk the Cyclones mainly faced was themselves.

Getting cocky, not taking the Peacock Toilers seriously, figuring the title was a slam dunk risked opening the door to losing the city title.

For Seaborn there were moments in Wednesday evening's game where the Toilers played well.

Good enough to make progress against the Cyclones.

The only problem is the Toilers could not sustain the strong play.

At the end of it all the Central Cyclones Red team defeated the Peacock Toilers 116 - 33.

Quarter Scores

The Third Quarter score was Central Red 88 and Peacock 31.

The Final Score was Central Red 116 and Peacock 33.

Coaches’ Comments

For Central Cyclones Red coach Barry Seaborn running up high scores against opponents has its problems.

“It’s hard to keep your team motivated. They were winning games by big scores but they worked hard all season,” Seaborn said.

Seaborn said the majority of the team are Grade Ten students and played with him as their coach last season.

“It was easy at rather beginning of the season to play. And we just had to maintain that drive to still play sometimes.”

Seaborn, who is the dad of Chase Seaborn, said at times at the beginning of the season there was friction but it is now long gone.

Next season Seaborn is moving to coach the senior boys team.

For Peacock Toilers head coach Karen Rigden overall the Toilers had a decent season.

“I think it was a season of growth. The boys are committed and we did well. All credit to Central they’re an absolutely fantastic team.”

“Frankly though I think we had some things working for us and we went away from them.”

Overall the season was OK.

“The season was fun. I think we all learned a lot. I learned a lot. It was enjoyable,” she said.

Rigden said she does not know she will coach next season.
